Choosing Healthy Alkaline Foods
To understand the benefits of an alkaline diet, it is important to underline the damaging effects that the typical North American diet has on our health.
The Standard American Diet is highly acidic. It involves the consumption of tasty (yet harmful!) foods and beverages such as meat, milk, butter, cheese, pasta, pizza, coffee, tea, soft drinks, alcohol and much more.
By eating acidic foods on a daily basis, our body cannot replenish itself with the healthy minerals that are primarily found in high alkaline foods. As a consequence, our body starts to experience too much acidity which can lead to an array of health problems.
Here are some of the health issues that are provoked by an excessive intake of acidic foods:
- Acid Reflux
- High Cholesterol
- Heart Disease
- Obesity
- Inflammatory diseases (such as allergies, arthritis, fibromyalgia, psoriasis, etc).
Eating alkaline foods and drinking alkaline water, can help you restore the body’s pH balance and reduce its acidity. Below is a list of alkaline foods and acidic foods - you can use these charts as a reference when preparing new recipes for your alkaline diet plan!
